Hi,

I have been tasked with a project where a contour plot chart is required like the one attached below. Does anyone know how this coould be done in Flex or are there any third-party components available to do this?

Thanks very much for you help.

Martin

No replies. Would this be possible in Java where Flex could call it?

It's not available out-of-the-box. There aren't any third-party libraries that I'm aware of (yet) that can do this type of charting.

When you say Flex could call it, do you mean your Flex app load it as an image?

Yes my Flex app would call a java process that returned a chart image and this would then be loaded in possibly a popup by Flex.

The ILOG Elixir has a heatmap component that may be of use. It can be used in conjunction with other flex components such as a cartesian chart. Does anyone have experience in using this?

ilogelixir is a decent component set, although I haven't used them recently enough to be of much help... I think there are some other posters on here though that could assist  Smiley

Those components only had a heatmap which wasn't really what I needed. I have since started looking at ChartDirector from http://www.advsofteng.com/. What I have had to do is have JSP/Java create a chart which Flex can call up in a popup window.

Has anyone ever implemented charting using ChartDirector? It costs $700 for a licences. Are there any similiar open-source products out there?

Thanks,
Martin

ChartDirector isn't available for Flex apps, but as you say, I guess you could open a new browser window to display a chart generated by this app.

I think the trend at the moment is for smallish development companies to latch onto the requirement for more a more extensive (and niche) suite of Flex Charting controls. These companies are expecting to make cash from the significant investment they've made in developing them. Maybe some will become free/open-source over time.
