hi,

in regards to the last session of the day concerning going freelance

It seemed that this is an interesting topic to many. I used to do a lot of freelance work before I actually started my permanent job. I can recommend a website which got me a very decent contract. It's www.guru.com. I know that there is a website called http://www.elance.com/ but I haven't used it.

I was probably a bit lucky, but I was able to get a contract from guru paid hourly. That's the best option, as you don't have to take on the risk of underestimating the cost and time a project will take and ending up loosing money.

Hey Jan,

So you didn't find Guru was full of low-paid fixed-price pieces of work? I have to say I haven't spent much time on sites that one and ifreelance.com or .co.uk (I think?), but the impression that the majority of the work on there was being bid on at really low rates by people in India and Eastern Asia.

Well, it was more than a year ago, and yes, there was quite a bit of low paid projects as well. But there were a few with a budget around $20k and I focused on those.

You have to take into consideration that even though a project can have a fixed budget on the site, it doesn't necessary mean it actually is fixed after you speak to the advertiser. Especially talking big projects.

But again, I might have just been lucky Wink
